A Tooth with a Small Cavity Might Be Repaired with an Amalgam or Composite Dental Filling

Posted .

If you’ve noticed increasing sensitivity with one of your teeth, or discomfort when chewing, you might be experiencing the early symptoms of a newly developed cavity. In a situation like this, you should have the tooth examined as soon as possible by one of our professionally trained dentists, Drs. Michael Sanders, Michael Fuller, Alfred Land III, and Alfred M. Land IV.

With most small cavities our dentists can often repair the tooth with an amalgam or composite dental filling.

An amalgam dental filling is composed of a blend of biologically inert metals. These dental fillings tend to be somewhat dark in color which makes amalgam an ideal choice to repair a cavity in your smile.

A composite dental filling is created from a special dental grade resin material that can be shaded to match your tooth enamel. This type of filling material is a good choice for repairing a cavity that appears in your smile.

After removing all traces to tooth decay and applying the dental filling material, our dentist will harden it and bond the dental filling in place with a special ultraviolet light.
